WHAT TO WEAR ON YOUR ENGAGEMENT SHOOT

The thing about having an engagement shoot is, it's all about you two as a couple and how you want to be documented. It's a chance to get some beautiful photographs of yourselves in your element - wherever that may be! I love doing engagement shoots and offer them free to all my couples when they book me as their wedding photographer. Partly because it gives us a chance to get to know eachother and gets my couples comfortable in front of the camera. And partly because I just bloody love them! Here are a few top tips when deciding what to wear on your engagement shoot.

AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT IN THE CITY:

So you've decided to get these beautiful couple photographs in your favourite city. Whether it's documenting your home town or where you're visiting for a short period of time, you've chosen a place that's special to you as a couple. In amongst the beautiful architecture of London for example, I always recommend my couples dress up a little. Think of it like you're on an anniversary date going to a nice restaurant. A cute flowy dress and heels always looks great and will get you feeling glam before we even start shooting. The main thing to remember is you want to feel good - confidence is key! Avoid busy patterned dresses with stripes or dots - these can distract on camera and go for a simple colour or subtle pattern.

As for the boys, they can match your date style in a simple collared shirt, chinos or dress trousers and dress shoes.

2. A BEACH ENGAGEMENT SHOOT:

I love getting into nature and finding some beautiful scenery on my engagement shoots. If you're getting married in a church or hotel, this is a chance to get some contrasting photographs in a scenic location. This time I also recommend a dress, but go for something a little more casual. A summer day dress is perfect and if it's a bit flowy in the wind, even better!

At the beach your partner can wear a collared shirt again but with some nice shorts or rolled up chinos.

3. WOODLANDS OR MOUNTAIN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT:

If you've found a great section of scenery you'd like to be photographed in, go for it! I'm always up for an adventure! The woods and mountains are beautiful spots for an engagement shoot, and similarly to the beach I'd go for a cute flowy dress. The only difference - trainers. You're not gonna want to be wearing jandals (or flip flops for the English couples here!) In the bush. The last thing I want is anyone getting injured so please wear nice - but practical - footwear. Some white trainers can look great with a summer dress so give it a go - you might be surprised!

The most important thing to remember when planning your engagement shoot is to make sure you feel good and know that you look good! It's all about being comfortable and confident. If you're a casual outdoorsy couple, feel free to wear your hiking gear. If you love dressing up, go full on black tie! You can absolutely have an outfit change halfway through - why not try out a couple of different looks? As your photographer, I will help you plan your engagement shoot and choose outfits that work for you specifically. If you feel stuck on what to wear - just ask! Send me through some options and I'll tell you what will work best. get on touch to plan your engagement shoot, I'd love to hear from you! xx
